Lucca: our review
Lucca is a modular French HR system — leave, expense reports, reviews, payroll, recruiting — that each company assembles module by module. An AI layer, "Lucca IA," has recently been added to summarize, synthesize and answer common HR questions.
What we take away from it
What counts in its favor
- Modular, transparent pricing: rates per employee per month are published, module by module, and the company only pays for the ones it activates.
- Hosted in France and Germany (OVH, Scaleway), with no transfer outside the EU for clients who don't choose the Swiss option, and ISO 27001 certification obtained in 2022.
- No commitment period: modules can be canceled with no long contractual notice, which limits the risk of trying it out.
What counts against it
- Most of Lucca stays a classic HR system: most modules (leave, expense reports, payroll) have nothing to do with AI, and presenting them as such would be misleading. AI is limited to a few assistance features added on top.
- Public rates only apply to companies with more than 100 employees; below that, you have to contact sales, so there's no real transparency for a small organization.
- Lucca IA doesn't publicly document the AI vendor used or whether data trains it, which leaves an open question for anyone who has to answer a vendor audit.
A good modular HR system for a company of more than 100 people that wants to assemble its HR building blocks one by one; don't choose it thinking you're buying an AI tool — AI is only an add-on here.

Lucca in detail
Lucca is a French HR information system that each company builds module by module: leave, expense reports, appraisals, payroll, recruitment, employee engagement. Recently, a layer of artificial intelligence, called "Lucca IA", has been added on top of some of these modules.
What it actually does
A company activates the modules it needs, one at a time, and pays a rate per employee per month specific to each — €3.11 excl. tax for absences, €3.21 excl. tax for payroll or recruitment, for example. Nothing forces you to buy the full suite. On top of this base, Lucca IA adds five concrete functions: a conversational assistant ("Ask Lucca") that summarises an employee's history before an annual review, a resume-matching tool that pairs a job posting with CVs while leaving the recruiter to decide, an automatic summary of internal survey comments, help for employees finding HR information, and an MCP server that will let external AI assistants access certain data under controlled conditions.
Why it shouldn't be mistaken for an AI tool
This is the most important point to clarify before buying: Lucca remains a standard HR information system, not an AI tool. The modules that make up most of the bill — leave, expense reports, payslips — have no AI component at all. AI is limited to an assistant, a CV-sorting tool and a survey summary, added on top of a base that already worked without it. Presenting Lucca as an "AI tool" to a company looking for an AI automation solution would be inaccurate: it's a solid HR system that has added assisted features, not the other way round.
Where it falls short
Three caveats. Pricing transparency, first, only holds for companies with more than 100 employees: below that, it's back to requesting a quote. Second, no public information specifies which AI provider processes data sent to Lucca IA, or whether it's used to train it — a question any legal department will ask before rolling out the feature widely. Finally, the recruitment module remains just one module among others: a company that recruits heavily will benefit from comparing it to a dedicated ATS rather than assuming it's sufficient.
Our recommendation
Lucca suits a mid-sized company that wants to build its HR system module by module, with documented European hosting. A structure with fewer than 100 employees wanting an immediate price, or a team primarily looking for a generative AI tool, should look elsewhere — or treat Lucca for what it really is: an HR system, not an AI product. For a company wanting to structure its training policy beyond the simple Lucca module, dedicated support often remains necessary.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
Suited for
- Companies of more than 100 employees that want to activate one HR module at a time (leave, then expense reports, then payroll) without buying a full suite
- HR departments that need a consolidated history per employee to prepare reviews or handle internal surveys
- Organizations that favor a certified European host over an American suite
Not a fit
- Companies with fewer than 100 employees who want an immediate public price, without going through sales
- Teams specifically looking for a generative AI tool: Lucca stays primarily an HR system, with AI as a secondary feature
- Firms that need to know precisely which AI model processes their data before signing
Frequently asked questions
- Is Lucca an AI tool or a classic HR system?
- Primarily an HR system: leave, expense reports, reviews, payroll and recruiting are classic modules with no AI. "Lucca IA" adds a conversational assistant (Ask Lucca) on top that summarizes an employee's history before a review, helps sort applications and summarizes internal survey results. Useful, but it's not the core of the product: a company primarily looking for a generative AI tool would be picking the wrong target if it chose Lucca for that reason alone.
- How much does Lucca cost for 50 employees?
- The published public rates (for example €3.11 excl. tax per employee per month for the Absences module) only apply to companies with more than 100 employees. Below that threshold, the pricing page points to sales: no public price for a 50-person organization.
- Does my HR data stay in France?
- Yes by default: Lucca hosts with OVH (France, Germany) or Scaleway (France, Netherlands), with no transfer outside the European Union. A Swiss hosting option exists (Azure, GCP) for clients who explicitly request it, under a separate contract.
- What's the difference with a dedicated ATS like Taleez for recruiting?
- Lucca's recruiting module covers the essentials — tracking candidates, open positions — but stays one module among others in an HR suite. Taleez is a dedicated ATS, with more depth on multi-jobboard distribution and referrals. A company that recruits heavily will benefit from comparing the two rather than assuming its HR system's module is enough.
- Do you need support to deploy Lucca?
- The public documentation doesn't detail heavy technical prerequisites: the platform is online, with nothing to install. The number of modules to activate and configure (payroll, reviews, expense reports) still justifies setup time, proportional to the number of modules chosen.
