Notta: our review
Notta transcribes your meetings and recordings, then turns them into a summary and usable notes. It stands out for the lowest entry price of the three tools compared here and for an interface in French that genuinely exists, but stays quiet on what happens to the recording once processed.
What we take away from it
What counts in its favor
- The cheapest Pro tier of the three tools compared: 8.17 $ per month billed yearly, against 8.33 $ at Otter and 10 $ at Fireflies.
- The only one of the three whose site and interface genuinely exist in French (notta.ai/fr), not just a page pointing back to English.
- The broadest certifications announced on its security page: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA, on top of AES-256 encryption at rest.
What counts against it
- The privacy policy never says whether recordings or transcripts are used to train an AI model: the only clause found on training narrowly concerns the Google Workspace APIs, not the rest of the service.
- No retention period is published for recordings and transcripts.
- Hosting is announced on Amazon Web Services without specifying the region: impossible to confirm whether the data stays in the European Union.
The lowest price and the only real French interface of the three, provided you accept not knowing precisely what happens to the recording. To rule out for any activity that must prove where its data goes.

Notta in detail
Notta transcribes your meetings and recordings, then produces a summary and actionable notes from them. Built on the same principle as Otter or Fireflies — a bot that joins the call, or a capture from the device — it stands out through a lower entry price and a French interface that genuinely exists, something neither Otter nor the French version of Fireflies push all the way into the product itself.
What it actually does
Two recording methods coexist at Notta: a bot that joins the Zoom, Teams or Google Meet call in your place, or a "bot-free" recording from the device, for teams that would rather avoid one more visible participant showing up in the meeting. Imported audio and video files are also transcribed, with translation and a bilingual mode for exchanges between two languages.
The lowest price, the thinnest documentation
Of the three tools compared, Notta shows the cheapest entry point: $8.17 a month for the Pro tier, billed yearly ($97.99 total), against $8.33 at Otter and $10 at Fireflies. The site exists in French from top to bottom, interface included — a real differentiator, since neither Otter nor the French version of Fireflies go that far on the product.
The trade-off appears as soon as you look for what happens to the recording. Notta's privacy policy never says whether audio or transcripts are used to train a model: it only specifies, about the Google Workspace APIs, that they "are not used to develop, improve, or train generic AI and machine learning models", a narrow clause that doesn't cover the rest of the service. No retention period is published either. The security page, on the other hand, is more complete: SOC 2 Type II certification, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA compliance claimed, hosting at Amazon Web Services, TLS 1.2 encryption in transit and AES-256 at rest — but without specifying the server region.
Why it interests us
For a small French-speaking organization that wants a cheap tool and an interface adopted without training, Notta has a real argument. We mention it in passing in our training engagements, for teams that would refuse a tool left in English.
Where it falls short
The silence on model training is the main reservation: unlike Fireflies, which rules it out in black and white, or Otter, which owns it in black and white, Notta takes no position either way in the pages reviewed. The location of the AWS servers isn't specified, which makes it impossible to say whether data stays within the European Union. Lastly, the company communicates little about its identity: no address or country of establishment appears in the pages reviewed.
Our recommendation
A defensible choice for a small French-speaking team that prioritises price and interface, provided you accept not knowing exactly what happens to the recording. A company under a strict confidentiality obligation should demand a written answer from Notta on training before signing, or turn to Fireflies.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
Suited for
- Small French-speaking organization that wants a French interface adopted without training, on a tight budget
- Individual or occasional use (interviews, classes, one-off meetings) where the free or Pro tier is enough
Not a fit
- Firm or company under a strict confidentiality obligation, which needs a written answer on training and location before signing
- Organization that must contractually prove data location within the European Union
Frequently asked questions
- Does Notta use my meetings to train its AI?
- The privacy policy does not say so explicitly for the whole service. It only states that the Google Workspace APIs are not used to train generic AI models, a narrow clause that does not answer the question for your audio and transcripts themselves.
- Is Notta's interface really in French?
- Yes. Unlike Otter, whose French version returns a page in English, notta.ai/fr offers a site and interface translated from end to end, with 58 languages announced for transcription.
- How much does Notta cost for a small team?
- The Pro tier is 8.17 $ per month, billed yearly (97.99 $ in total) — the lowest entry price of the three tools compared here. A free tier exists for occasional use, with no credit card.
- Where is Notta's data hosted?
- Notta announces hosting its service on Amazon Web Services, without specifying the region. It is therefore impossible to confirm whether the data stays in the European Union or passes through the United States.
- What's the difference with Fireflies or Otter?
- Fireflies explicitly rules out training a model on your meetings and publishes a data processing agreement; Otter explicitly admits to it. Notta takes no position on either in the pages reviewed, but remains the cheapest and the only one to offer a complete French interface.
