Nabla: our review

Nabla listens to the medical consultation and draws from it the clinical note, the letter to a colleague and coding suggestions. It targets doctors and healthcare organisations wanting to cut the time spent typing after each patient.

What we take away from it

What counts in its favor

  • Certified SOC 2 Type II (period running to October 2025) and ISO/IEC 27001 (since September 2025), with a public trust centre listing each certification and its date.
  • Data retention policy configurable per organisation, rather than a single duration imposed on every customer.
  • Covers the whole flow of a consultation — clinical note, dictation and coding suggestions — with no re-entry between those steps.

What counts against it

  • No mention of HDS certification (French health data hosting) on the pages consulted, although it is mandatory in France to host personal health data.
  • Hosting is described as running on Google Cloud Platform, “in the region you choose when creating your organisation”, with no page dedicated to data residency in France.
  • Prices are not published: the only documented route is a sales demonstration.

A tool well documented on its general security, but which leaves open the question that matters most in France: ask about HDS in writing before committing anything on French health data.

Nabla in detail

Nabla listens to the consultation between a doctor and their patient, then produces a structured clinical note, a letter to a fellow practitioner and coding suggestions. The publisher claims more than 130 healthcare facility clients and offices in both Paris and New York — two markets with very different regulatory requirements, which matters for what follows.

What it actually does

The doctor turns on listening at the start of the consultation and keeps talking normally with the patient. Nabla transcribes the exchange, then extracts a note organised by reason for visit, history, examination and plan — the practitioner reviews and corrects it before validation. The same flow suggests billing or coding codes, and can generate a letter for a fellow practitioner. The intended gain is simple: less time spent typing after the patient leaves.

Why this point deserves a closer look

Nabla's site displays four certifications: HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001 and GDPR compliance. The trust centre adds further badges for CCPA, Texas RAMP, the EU AI Act and PIPEDA. On none of these pages, however, does the HDS certification (French health data hosting) appear — yet it is mandatory in France for any host of personal health data, under the French public health code. HIPAA protects health data in the United States; it doesn't replace HDS in France. Data is also hosted on Google Cloud Platform, "in the region you choose" according to the security page, with no written confirmation of French data residency or an HDS-certified host for that region. For a French facility, this is the question to settle before any deployment on real health data: see our page AI for healthcare professionals. We recommend asking for written confirmation before signing, rather than inferring compliance from certifications that first answer to a US framework.

Where it falls short

Three reservations, in the order they arise. First, the absence of any mention of HDS, already detailed above. Second, the vagueness about exact data residency: "the region you choose" guarantees nothing as long as no page lists the available regions or a certified host in France. Third, pricing, absent from any public page: costing goes through a sales demo, which prevents comparing cost before handing over your contact details.

Our recommendation

Nabla keeps serious security documentation for US use. For a deployment in France on real health data, demand written confirmation of HDS certification and server location before any commitment. Without that confirmation, a French facility takes on a compliance risk that none of the certifications displayed covers.

Who it's for, and who it isn't

Suited for

  • Practitioners and organisations outside France, or whose HDS hosting is already handled separately
  • Practices looking first to cut typing time after a consultation, before checking full regulatory compliance

Not a fit

  • French healthcare organisation that must show documented HDS compliance for its personal health data: the certification appears on none of the pages consulted
  • Organisation wanting to know the price before a sales demonstration

Frequently asked questions

Is Nabla HDS-certified for France?
None of the pages consulted — main site, security page, trust centre — mentions HDS certification, which is nonetheless mandatory to host personal health data in France. It is the first question to put in writing to the sales team before any commitment.
Where is my patients' data hosted?
On Google Cloud Platform, in the region chosen when the organisation is created. No dedicated page documents data residency specific to France.
What does Nabla cost for a practice?
The price is not published. The vendor points to a free trial or a sales demonstration to obtain a figure.
Does Nabla train a model on my consultations?
The pages consulted do not say so explicitly. The vendor documents a configurable retention policy, but no clear statement on model training was found: a question to ask directly.
How does it differ from Weda or Lifen?
Weda and Lifen are French vendors that document their operations from France; Nabla is a French-American company whose security documentation mainly addresses the American market (HIPAA first), which explains the absence of any HDS mention.
