LandingAI: our review
LandingAI sells a vision-based document extraction building block (Agentic Document Extraction), delivered as an API and Python or TypeScript libraries. Without someone able to write an API call and process a structured response, the tool is useless: it's not a product to hand to a business user alone.
What we take away from it
What counts in its favor
- A documented zero-retention option, in black and white: data processed in memory, never stored, never used to train the models — available from the Team tier at $250/month.
- SOC 2 Type II certified since August 2025, complemented by HIPAA and GDPR, with a trust center that publishes the actual list of subprocessors.
- European hosting option (Ireland) for document extraction, plus VPC or on-premise deployment for the Enterprise offering.
- Free trial tier with no credit card (1,000 credits), useful for checking extraction accuracy before committing a developer.
What counts against it
- Without the zero-retention option, which isn't on by default anywhere, data "may be used to provide and improve the services": protection against training is a paid option, not the standard behavior.
- No no-code production interface: an online trial exists for testing, but real integration goes through a REST API and Python or TypeScript libraries — without a developer, the tool stays a demo.
- No public DPA: the /dpa and /data-processing-agreement pages return 404, you have to request it through sales.
- The subprocessor list includes Google and, since December 2025, Hugging Face for AI model capabilities, without specifying which one actually processes the content of submitted documents.
A solid technical choice if a development team needs to plug document extraction into an existing pipeline, with zero retention turned on for sensitive files. Without a developer or budget for that option, the tool meets no real need.

What happens to your data
- Is your data used to train their models?
- Depends on the plan, or an option you can turn off
- Subprocessors
- The trust center publishes the list: Amazon Web Services (cloud infrastructure, United States and Ireland for document extraction), Microsoft Azure (containerized deployments at the client), Google (AI model capabilities and internal tools), Snowflake (for the native Snowflake app) and, since December 2025, Hugging Face for benchmarking and model capabilities.
- Retention
- Without the zero-retention option, the general policy states retention for up to 7 years for legal obligations. With zero retention — available from the Team tier — data is processed in memory and never stored, neither at LandingAI nor at its subprocessors.
LandingAI in detail
LandingAI sells a technical building block: Agentic Document Extraction reads a document as an image rather than relying on a pretrained template, then returns fields, tables and charts in a structure a program can use. It isn't a product you open to ask a PDF a question — it's a piece to assemble into a pipeline, which entirely changes the audience it's aimed at.
What it actually does
An online trial, no credit card required, lets you upload a few documents and see the extraction result — useful for judging accuracy before writing a line of code. But going to production means using a REST API or a Python or TypeScript library: that's where the real pipeline gets built, the one that takes in a stream of invoices or forms and outputs data ready for an ERP or a database. Without a developer to write that call and process the response, the online trial stays a preview with no follow-through.
Why the retention question interests us in particular
For a sensitive document — a contract, a client file, a deed — the question that matters is what happens to the file once it's sent to the API. LandingAI answers with more precision than most: a "zero retention" option guarantees the data is processed in memory, never stored, either at LandingAI or at its subprocessors, and never used to train a model. The point worth stating clearly: this option isn't the default setting. Without it, the documentation admits the data "may be used to provide and improve the services." For an automation that processes files from law firms or accounting firms, turning it on isn't optional.
Where it falls short
The first issue is the price of the guarantee: zero retention activates from the Team tier, at $250 a month, not on the free trial. The second is the lack of a public DPA — the most likely URLs return 404, so you have to ask the sales team. The third is the technical barrier itself: without an in-house or contracted developer, none of the security guarantees matter, since the tool will never reach production. The fourth is the list of subprocessors, which includes Google and Hugging Face for "AI model capabilities" without specifying which one processes the actual content of the documents sent.
Our recommendation
LandingAI is a good choice if a technical team needs to extract data from documents at scale and can afford the Team tier to activate zero retention. For an SME without a developer, or a one-off need for a few documents a month, the tool has nothing to offer as long as no one can write the integration — check first whether Rossum or Nanonets offer a more accessible path for your use case.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
Suited for
- Technical teams building a document-processing pipeline (invoices, contracts, forms) that can call an API
- Organizations ready to pay for the Team tier ($250/month) to enable zero retention on sensitive documents
Not a fit
- Firms or SMEs without a developer: the online trial lets you test accuracy, not put the tool into production
- Organizations that want a no-training guarantee by default: it's an option on the paid tier, not the standard behavior on the free tier
Frequently asked questions
- Do you need to know how to code to use LandingAI?
- Yes, in practice. An online trial exists to test extraction accuracy on a few documents, but real integration goes through a REST API and Python or TypeScript libraries. It's a product for a development team, not a business user alone.
- Does my client data leave my infrastructure?
- Yes by default, to LandingAI's infrastructure (AWS, or Azure in a container) — unless you choose a VPC or on-premise deployment, reserved for the Enterprise offering, or enable zero retention so nothing is stored beyond processing.
- Does LandingAI train its models on my documents?
- By default, data can be used to provide and improve the service. You have to explicitly enable the zero-retention option, available from the Team tier, for the documentation to guarantee that no data is used for training.
- How much does LandingAI cost?
- The Explore tier is free with 1,000 credits included, then $1 per 100 credits on usage. The Team tier charges $250 per month for 25,000 credits, with zero retention as an option. The Enterprise offering is quote-based, with VPC or on-premise deployment.
- What's the difference with Nanonets or Rossum?
- All three extract data from documents using AI. LandingAI stands out with its "vision" approach — it reads the layout like an image rather than relying on a model trained per form type — and with a zero-retention option documented in more detail than its competitors provide.
