BlazeSQL: our review

BlazeSQL connects an AI to your SQL database so any colleague can ask a question in plain language and get a numeric answer, with no query to write. The vendor is Luxembourg-based and the product runs on Google Cloud, with a desktop option that keeps query results on your machine.

What we take away from it

What counts in its favor

  • No customer data is used to train models, full stop — the clause is unambiguous and applies to the whole product.
  • The desktop app with offline mode keeps query results on your machine: only schema metadata goes out, not the business data.

What counts against it

  • No public price: the product isn't free and there's no permanent free tier, but the amount isn't shown.
  • Servers are with Google Cloud, split between the United States and the European Union with no single-residency commitment: data location isn't fixed.

One of the few data-analysis tools that seriously documents its no-training policy. Suits SMBs that query their SQL database daily. Skip it if you need a public price before even trying, or if hosting must be exclusively European.

What happens to your data

Is your data used to train their models?
No
Subprocessors
Google Cloud Platform (Vertex AI for AI calls, Firestore for storage). Calls to Vertex AI are always in Zero Data Retention.
Retention
Account data is deleted on termination. Queries and results are stored encrypted while the account is active, or locally only in offline desktop mode.

BlazeSQL in detail

BlazeSQL is a data-analysis assistant that plugs directly into your SQL database and answers your questions in natural language. You ask which salesperson has the best conversion rate this month, the tool writes the query, runs it and shows the result. No dashboard to configure, no query to write.

The vendor, Blaze Analytics vGmbH, is a Luxembourg company. Its listed clients range from Siemens to Amazon, plus eBay and FlixBus.

What it actually does

Once connected to your database, BlazeSQL automatically extracts the schema and makes it available to the AI model. You type a question, the model generates a SQL query, runs it and returns the result as a table or a chart. The tool learns from your corrections over time.

The product comes in two versions. The desktop app, with offline mode on by default, keeps query results on your machine. The web version stores encrypted results on the servers to enable dashboards and sharing.

Why it interests us

The no-training clause is the clearest thing we've read in this comparison. The privacy policy states it without ambiguity: "We do not use Customer Data to train AI models unless you explicitly opt in via a separate written agreement." The homepage sums it up: "No models are trained on your data." On top of that, Zero Data Retention applies systematically to all calls to Google Vertex AI.

For an SME hesitant to connect an AI to its customer database, that's an argument very few tools on the market state this clearly.

Where it falls short

The first obstacle is the lack of public pricing. The site publishes no price: you have to request a demo or start a trial. For a sole trader comparing several tools, that's real friction.

The second is data location. The terms of use state that data may be processed in the United States and the European Union, with no commitment to a single location.

Our recommendation

If your daily use rests on non-technical staff asking questions of a SQL database, and privacy is your top criterion, BlazeSQL is a serious candidate in desktop mode. If you need a clear price before deciding, look elsewhere.

Who it's for, and who it isn't

Suited for

  • An SMB of 20 to 200 people whose non-technical team asks questions of the database and expects a quick answer without going through IT
  • An organization that handles sensitive data and wants query results to stay on its machines (desktop mode)

Not a fit

  • A startup or freelancer who needs a public, transparent price before committing
  • An organization bound by an obligation to host data exclusively in the EU

Frequently asked questions

Do you need to know how to write SQL to use BlazeSQL?
No, that's the whole point of the product. You ask your question in plain language and BlazeSQL writes the query, runs it and shows the result. The tool also learns from your corrections: the more you use it, the more accurate its queries become.
Does my database data leave my infrastructure?
In desktop mode with the offline option enabled (on by default), only schema metadata is sent to BlazeSQL's servers to generate the SQL query. Query results stay on your machine. In web mode, results are stored encrypted on the servers.
Is BlazeSQL free?
No. The vendor offers a free trial period but there's no permanent free tier. Prices aren't published on the site: you need to request a demo or start a trial.
