Auphonic: our review
Auphonic levels sound, reduces noise and automatically normalizes an audio or video file, with 2 free processed hours every month.
What we take away from it
What counts in its favor
- Uploaded files are stored and processed on Hetzner servers located in Germany, a location spelled out in the privacy policy.
What counts against it
- Beyond the 2 free monthly hours, the lowest paid tier already bills 12 € per month for just 9 extra hours.
Worth it for a podcast or show that produces few hours per month and wants hosting located in Germany without reading a complex contract.

Auphonic in detail
Auphonic takes a raw podcast or video recording and fixes, in one pass, the sound level, background noise and volume gaps between speakers. The service works on a credit of hours processed, not per minute of an open project.
The first 2 hours each month are free. Beyond that, the S tier bills 12 € per month for 9 extra hours, with a discount if the subscription is paid yearly. The privacy policy states that uploaded audio and video files are stored and processed on Hetzner servers located in Germany, and that the service complies with GDPR for users in the European Union.
For a show that fits within a few hours a month, the free quota is often enough and German hosting meets a localization requirement. The price jump at the very first paid tier, however, quickly weighs on heavier production.

Suited for
- A podcast host who records one or two episodes a month and wants automatic processing with no manual tuning
Not a fit
